SOUNDS

I LIKE MY WEAVING. I LIKE DRAWING & PAINTING. I LIKE DOING STUFF WITH SOUND & MAKE THEM INTO A COLLAGE & PUT THEM THROUGH THE COMPUTER. IT MAKES ME FEEL HAPPY THAT I AM A SOUND EXPERT. A STUDENT FROM THE SALT INSTITUTE INTERVIEWED ME ABOUT MY SOUNDS & HIS DOCUMENTARY CALLED "THE SONIC WORLD." MY SOUND PIECES WERE PLAYED ON WBOR @ BOWDOIN COLLEGE & WMPG @ THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MAINE IN PORTLAND. I HAVE SOLD MANY SOUND CDS @ BULL MOOSE IN BRUNSWICK & STRANGE MAINE IN PORTLAND. I ALSO SOLD MY SOUND CDS @ THE SPINDLEWORKS HOLIDAY FAIR IN 2006.

MY VIDEO IS ABOUT "THE SOUND BAND" I ALSO DID A PRESENTATION FOR THE MAINE ARTS COMMISSION @ BOWDOIN COLLEGE'S MOULTON UNION. I ALSO DID A SPOKEN WORD ABOUT "THE SQUEAKING CART."

HANDICAP, I HEARD OF IT BUT I AIN'T GOT IT NOW

This is probably one of the most famous lines written/spoken at Spindleworks, and so telling of the outlook of the artists at Spindleworks who break down stereotypes with their unique and wonderful view of the world and their expression of their place in it.

Over 35 artists work in a variety of mediums, including painting and drawing, ceramics and woodworking, weaving and other fiber and fabric arts. In addition, the artists write poetry and stories, and express themselves through acting, video, sound, and other performing arts. Their work has been exhibited widely, and they are well known and respected members of Maine's artistic community.

Spindleworks is a non profit art center for adults with disabilitiesa and a program of the Independence Association of Brunswick Maine, whose mission is to help children and adults with disabilities achieve full and inclusive lives in their chosen community. Artists in the Spindleworks program come from surrounding communities including Bath, Topsham, Bowdoinham, Portland, Westbrook, Auburn, Lisbon Falls, Richmond, and Freeport.

Artists attending the program receive supplies, studio space, and guidance as needed. Their work is exhibited in the Whatnot Gallery and Store at Spindleworks as well as in shows both locally and nationally. The artists receive 75% of the sale price of their work, with 25% returning to the program to purchase supplies.

Nestled in downtown Brunswick, Spindleworks is located in walking distance from numerous galleries, as well as the Curtis Memorial Library, the Theater Project, the Walker Art Museum, Pickard Theater, and the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum at Bowdoin College.

For more information on any of the artists, to see new work, or to inquire about purchasing work, please contact us at (207) 725-8820 or visit our website: www.spindleworks.org
