transformation

Its been a very busy month at Spindleworks, inside and out. This week Jonathan and Earl built a fence on the far side of our new patio, using antique barn boards donated from Michael Perkins out on Durham Road. Meanwhile, Lowes has stepped up once again to help Spindleworks. This week they came with plants, a new grill, a bench, and bags and bags of mulch. 7 volunteers from Lowes plus friends Karen Stevenson, and Hannah Trowbridge set out to planting and mulching. It took the morning to plant the multitude of perenials donated by Lowes, and by lunch Spindleworks was transformed!!! Please come by and see the amazing new landscaping. We are so grateful to our friends at Lowes, and all of our volunteers this past year who have helped to make this garden possible, including of course Ann Kearlsey, our volunteer landscape architect. Next spring we will have a proper garden party, so stay tuned!

visiting artists...

This summer we have been graced by a wonderful ceramics mentor, Kara Kowalczyk. She has taught twice a week for the summer in exchange for using our studio, and the artists have benefitted from her quiet and wise presence. Here, Emma gets a lesson in blending glazes as she works on finishing projects before it gets too cold to work in the studio.

Dancing the summer away! We had two different dance classes this august: modern with Sarah McCormick, and Hip Hop with Tiffany Glidden. They both stretched us out and made us sweat!

the spindleworks garden.

Since the beginning of the year, the Spindleworks artists have been working with Landscape Architect Ann Kearsley to design a garden at Spindleworks. Each week an eager and determined group meets with Ann to discuss ideas, look at different garden styles, and draw ideas for what will undoubtedly be a very creative garden! With Ann's help, we now have a schematic plan for the Spindleworks garden.

But how do we pay for this garden? The artists have already thought about this and have decided to have a can and bottle drive. As it turns out, we are well on our way. With cans and bottles collected over the past year, we have established a healthy start to our garden fund. But we need more help. The artists of Spindleworks invite the community to donate money from their redeemed cans and bottles to our project. For greater ease, you may redeem bottles at either The Beverage Rack, 48 Cushing Street, Brunswick or Topsham Redemption Center, 125 C Maine Street, Topsham where an account has been set up for us. If you would like to make an additional donation towards this project, please contact us. We will also be looking for volunteers to implement the planas well as the following: Plants, Tools, Lumber, Mulch and loam, Fencing material, Gate, Paving material and stone, Containers (oversized pots), Garden furniture, Grill, Umbrella, Pump for a water garden, Hardware, Hanging baskets.... If you have any of these items, please contact us!
